Orange Deluxe 3rd Album ‘Kentish Delight’ to be released via our new digital platform

Orange Deluxe ‘Kentish Delight’ (GOODLP15)

We are SO pleased to confirm that the 3rd Orange Deluxe album ‘Kentish Delight’ will be issued via our digital platform on Friday 24th July via all the main media outlets.

It’s a complete work of the sessions back in the day…

A further indication of our commitment to not only archive the history of our iconic label, but to make available rarities and exclusive material from the same era. Else simply update, along with many artists on DDG for the 1st time.

Best person to describe the album is the band’s founder and vocalist Paul Bassett…. he has a way of making words sound like art and positive is these difficult times.

“After the release of the first two albums and the difficulties promoting the second album due to Rob’s spinal surgery I had collected a number of ideas and musical sketches that had been ruminating at the back of my mind for some time…as a band Rob’s time away had hit us hard but it was great to have him back and although not match fit so to speak he was able to get involved and having his chilled personality back in the fold was amazing so the four of us spent a lot of time together at his and Cope’s flat in Kentish Town in North London. It had always been the focal point of the band and Kentish Town was really in our blood by then. So whilst the first two albums had been well received and were much loved by our fan base the overriding criticism was that we were writing great album tunes but had yet to write a killer single on which to hang the promotion of an album.

Cope, Rob, Paul and Keith – the infamous wild boys of Orange Deluxe

Well we accepted the challenge and as a writer I decided to limit myself to composing only 3 to 4 minute pop songs to see what we could come up with. I figured we could write the album tunes later!! After I introduced a few song ideas to the band the idea for naming the project ‘Kentish Delight’ appeared and just stuck. Kentish delight was a café/kebab shop just up from Cope’s flat that we frequented and we thought was a great play on words by the Turkish guys who ran it. Once the name appeared It became a lightening rod for my writing and I started to focus on the many characters I saw whenever I was in Kentish Town that summer. I remember coming out of Kentish Town Tube one day and looking over to the buildings opposite wondering just how many people lived in all the flats above the shops and what their lives were like. I began to construct little story lines about imaginary characters living in all these flats and started to see the album could be more than just a collection of pop songs but had the potential to be a collage of interweaving story lines, overlapping in terms of their location and timeline and that could paint a picture of she sheer wonderful variety of humanity in Kentish Town. So we ended up with songs about the homeless man on the Tube, the neighbour trying to make ends meet, ever optimistic broken hearted young lovers and all imagined as living on top of and alongside each other whilst somehow seeming to live such solitary lives. To me as a ‘country boy’ this had always seemed to be the tragedy of modern urban life.

A lovely picture of a wonderful group of friends to us all… they totally got the spirit of Dead Dead Good which exists to this day

I remember this time incredibly fondly, we had always been great mates but this was a time of real creative energy for us and we even wrote some songs from scratch together in the rehearsal rooms; Liar and Freeloader were both written this way and would have been potential singles if things had turned out differently. Copey, Keith and Rob even came up with a motif (interlude) that we intended to use as a recurring thread throughout the album to give it a kind of movie soundtrack style.

So Kentish Delight as it appears today 20 odd years later is effectively a collection of demos and musical sketches we had put together as part of preproduction for recording our third album. Some are simple acoustic takes some are groovy little ditties and some are the OD’s at full throttle. Sadly, it was not to be, but thanks to the wonders of modern technology we can at least serve up a slice of ‘what might have been pie’.  To DDG with love…enjoy!

All the best…feed the cats…and stay safe.

Love PB”

Congratulations to Birmingham City FC & England U23 Lioness Striker Claudia Walker

Claudia Walker 2019/20 PFA Community Champion of the Year

We are so thrilled to confirm that Claudia has received the prestigious ‘Club Community Champion Award’ from the PFA for the present season… it genuinely could not be awarded to a nicer, bubbly, cheeky, talented individual.

Steve Harrison: ‘Claudia is one of the most positive and inspiring clients I have ever had the pleasure to work with. From the first time meeting her at the Everton training ground, organising her move to Birmingham City then we have got on famously…’

‘Her energy and humour is infectious, and she always puts time in for her fans and is SO full of energy’!

I can see why Claudia has carried on the terrific work of her captain Kerys Harrop and the club, who put in so much to the local community in Brum’

Congratulations from us all at Team DDG… we continue to be proud of our DDG Family… it’s the Dead Dead Good spirit that makes us so different.

Welcome to our new North American Consultant Sean Simmons

Sean Simmons – the latest member of the DDG family

We are delighted to announce that Canadian Sean Simmons is joining Dead Dead Good Management as a player recruitment consultant in North America.

Sean is based out of Toronto, Canada and is presently finishing his Law Degree at York University in the city.

He was a NCAA Division One soccer player from 2013-2017, and has placed over 10 players into the NCAA league since 2018.

DDG Managing Director Steve Harrison made comment:

“Thrilled to see Sean join the team, and another positive news story for Dead Dead Good in these challenging times”.

“We have a long-standing history in the music sector in North America, dating back to the 1990’s, and a fair bit of experience in the MLS and USL soccer league’s. We have assisted in a number of deals in the college sectors”.

“Having people on the ground in both North America and the UK will help us optimise cross-Atlantic opportunies”.

DDG is also looking at a similar role in Europe with having seen recent moves of clients into both Germany and Portugal.

As a statement of intent, Sean has already delivered a young attacking midfielder with international Canadian experience and a joint Canadian/European passport.

Welcome to #TeamDDG Sean… exciting times ahead!

Joshua Kayode heads to the Championship with Rotherham United and EFL Promotion!

Wonderful News that JJ Kayode (so good they named him twice…) is headed to the EFL Championship with League Two Runners-Up Rotherham United FC.

JJ Kayode – Team DDG and Rotherham United Striker

We are always proud to see our players make progress through the ranks, but none more so than Joshua who we first came across through a chance meeting with his father at a game in Dublin when JJ was only fifteen. The rest is in the history books.

We brought JJ to England on trial and whilst interest was expressed at a number of clubs, in both England and the Scotland, then the offer at Rotherham United felt the right one, and JJ was offered a scholarship which in turn lead to an offer of an early professional contract having been linked to a number of other clubs.

Lots of goals later JJ attracted the interest of a loan opportunity at Chesterfield FC in the Conference, where he helped stabalise the struggling club to consolidating its league status in 2018/19.

JJ made three appearances in the EFL Cup.

An Irish International call-up followed at he made his U19 debut in Dublin.

JJ outside the New York Stadium…

The current season has seen JJ on loan with Gateshead FC in the Conference up until December, and then an excellent EFL period on-loan at Carlisle United in League Two… some terrific goals and exceptional form through-out the season.

The 6’4″ Striker has scored wherever he has been, and we are all excited about the new season and what options come his way.

There is already huge interest in JJ for the new season and DDG was successful in to securing JJ with an improved new three-year contract earlier this year.

So far so good… exciting times ahead.

Congratulations to our very own Jake Cooper on Promotion to the Championship!

Congratulations to Jake Cooper as Rotherham United FC are promoted to the English Championship!

#TeamDDG Jake Cooper

Jake, now nineteen has been with the Millers as a youngster and signed his scholarship at fifteen.

His towering ability, strength, skill and endeavour this season in the EFL Cup and on-loan to Conference side Gateshead FC lead to Dead Dead Good negotiating a brand new three-year contract with the Millers on the last day before lockdown.

Indeed Jake, Millers chief executive Paul Douglas and our own Managing Director Steve Harrison had to follow early strict social distancing protocol on the day without all the normal boardroom high fives, back-slapping and hugs normally associated at such auspicious occasions and they remain in abeyance!

Steve commented… ‘it was a surreal moment, arriving at the New York Stadium, without of the normal bustling activity in the car-park, the concourse or reception’.

‘I am thrilled for Jake, an exceptional motivated, dedicated and talented player. He also a great deal more in his ‘locker-room’ that most traditional centre-backs… ask the opposing defenders in the Conference, where he scored two exceptional goals to make himself a Gateshead loan-legend!’.

‘Jake also has incredibly supportive family behind him, and I never underestimate this type of underpinning to his game and development… it works well as part of the DDG Family approach to representaion’

A wonderful opportunity going -forward for the towering young Yorkshire man to progress.

Amber Barrett interviewed by CNN as part of a feature surrounding the impact of the global pandemic

Amber Barrett – our latest recruit speaking with CNN this week

Amber Barrett of FC Cologne has a particular unique and interesting outlook on how the COVID 19 virus has impacted on the global game of women’s football.

The Republic of Ireland Number 9, who was forced to stay in Germany during lockdown, then her return to top tier Bundesliga action last weekend was a welcome blessing.

Take a look at this and a huge amount of coverage as the eloquent Irish striker continues to be a worthy voice of international women’s soccer from the Emerald Isle.

Jake Cooper taking the plaudits in the Yorkshire media

One of two excellent articles in the Yorkshire media in the past week surrounding Team DDG and Rotherham United’s Jake Cooper…

Jake Cooper the hugely impressive Rotherham United FC central defender…

An impressive debut professional season saw DDG secure Jake a new contract on the final pre-lockdown day. A first team debut at eighteen, an incredibly positive loan in the Conference with Gateshead FC and an international squad call-up all within the last twelve-months.

Jake is a real prospect in the game, and along with Team DDG & Millers teammate JJ Kayode, we are already taking a great deal of enquires about another new season loan.

DDG Music Playlist Goes Live on Spotify!

We are pleased to confirm that our “Dead Dead Good Playlist” is now live on Spotify.

We are elebrating our launch of the label thirty-years ago along our artists music, songwriting and art.

We should have baked a cake, but we simply forgot the date!

The DDG Poster Art limited to an initial 99 copies signed by Steve Harrison and designer KIm Peters… SOLD OUT

We will be adding and updating the playlist on a daily basis from the songs associated with Dead Dead Good, Transworld and Steve Harrison Management. We have in excess of one thousand songs to select from, so we should continue to be fresh and interesting for some time in the future.

We are also looking to licence new albums particularly any associated with the Manchester Music Scene and the era of DDG.

Essentially we are creating an archive and history about the DDG heritage.

Initial “Playlist” songs includes songs from the Charlatans , Monaco, the Chameleons, Orange Deluxe and Mantaray.

Fill Yer Boots… and Keep On Keepin’ On.

Martin Harrison joins Dead Dead Good Management

Wonderful News from Dead Dead Good HQ.

Martin Harrison has joined Dad and the team in Manchester as a Director.

Martin is an experienced businessman in his own right with many years in sales and marketing and years on the road with Dad during the rock n roll years. Hanging around backstage with the likes of Peter Hook, Snow Patrol, Coldplay, Stereophonics, the Charlatans, Oasis, the Stones Roses as a youngster and later working with a hugely successful British audio brand within sales and licencing.

Martin was a talented footballer as a youngster and was offered a championship scholarship at fifteen but opted to turn it down to follow a pathway in business and continue to watch his beloved Manchester City along with Dad.

And yes, he grew up watching City play ‘when they were s**t’ as the taunts go. Martin had a season ticket in the third tier in English football albeit with gates of over 30,000!

Martin will work in recruitment, client management and commercial aspects of the business going-forward, whilst he retains his other business interests.

There is no truth in the rumour that his first signing will be eight-year old daughter Isobel who has been showing the girls on the DDG WhatsApp Group a few her skills in the toilet roll challenge leading to comments of ‘Sign Her Up’!

More positive progress as the DDG expands and goes from strength to strength…

To say we are thrilled is an understatement.
